So has there ever been anything in your life that you have walked away from, didn't think you missed at all only to realize one day when you have/do it again how much you really did miss it?
There was a time in my life when every weekend was spent on the water racing sailboats. Not America Cup caliber racing, but friends getting together to sail boats to see who would get the engraved pickle dish at the end of the day. In San Diego, you can race every weekend beginning New Year's Day and right up through about the weekend before Christmas. For several years I did just that. I was so involved that I even found a way to create employment in the industry. I was so blessed because through that, I got to sail on teams way above my level in some really great places. It was a fiber of my being.
When Doug & I got married, I cut the schedule back a bit - and was glad. I had a new life, and sailing was not all of it anymore but a part. It was still my job, and it was still something I loved to do - just not all the time.
In April of 2008, when we got the call about a 14 month old baby girl waiting for her momma in an orphanage in China, I sailed my last race. My thoughts were no longer on the water, but on my daughter. I turned my business over to someone else, walked away and never looked back. Not one single moment of regret. Ever. No sense of loss. Never missed it.
Until last Tuesday. When I got "the call". From my old team - "Zuni Bear". There was a championship regatta in Long Beach and was I available to race? My husband, who is the most amazing husband in the world, said "Go". He would handle the kids (all 4) and his dad who was flying in on Saturday
So I dug up my sailing gear, tried on my sailing clothes (and found they still fit!), asked for grace from the team for my "rustiness" - and climbed back on the bow.
Oh how I loved this scene....

Team Zuni Bear....I think we were looking pretty good here!
As much fun as I had - it was still pretty cool when I got back to the dock on Sunday and had my own personal fan club waiting for me - they loved being on the boat - and look like a couple of naturals!

Of course, the favorite time on the boat for them was snack time with Rich!

A future bow babe here (for the non sailors in the group - a bow babe is someone - usually a small person_ who unknowingly gets trained to do foredeck - the wettest position on the boat and also the hardest on the body - you get tossed around like a flying fish on the deck up there) - like mother, like daughter!

Momma and her fan club!

My children and husband are the center of my universe - but it sure was nice to have another planet re-introduced into that universe this weekend!
Thanks Team Zuni Bear for being patient while I shook the cobwebs off - every bruise (and there are many) was worth it!
