A new way to define "fine dining"!

The theme of this past week has been food! The best pictures have been at the table and we have had some major milestones as well!!

It actually started with Matt last Friday night; we were in San Diego for the weekend, and went to one of our favorite places - Fiddler's Green. Matt ordered the prime rib - the large cut - all 27 oz!!!

The next morning at breakfast...Becky was in a funny mood! She was having a ball with the creamers!

On Sunday - we went to lunch with the board of a foundation that I sit on - she was great, and I gave her a teething biscuit to see what she would do

hmmm....momma says this is ok to eat......

hey...she was right! Tonight, she tried some strawberries that I cut up for her - we started out on the plate....but I had to change strategies when she decided it was easier to eat them like Sailor than to pick them up!
Once we took the plate away, she got the hang of it & fed herself for the first time ever!

I left my Heart In San Francisco

At least that's where Becky left hers! She really had a good time Monday & Tuesday. She was the ultimate tourist - riding around in her stroller waving at everyone! We started with the most famous sight in San Francisco....

.... but Becky wasn't looking at the bridge....she was looking at an even more famous sight!

We rode the Pier 39 carousal.....

...saw the fish in the aquarium.....

....ate lunch at a very hip place......

.... rode the swings in Washington Square park after we visited Ghirardelli.....

mommy got the chocolate - Becky got the wrapper!

...and experienced why summer is San Francisco is compared to winter everywhere else!

As you can see - we had a very busy Monday! Tuesday, we headed home - but took another quick visit to the aquarium; Becky really loved watching the fish in the under the bay exhibit

Road Trip - Day 1 & 2

Becky joined mom & dad on her first road trip this weekend. We left on Saturday to drive up to my dad's & Lois's house - about 5 hour away. We left at 7 am - and stopped at a dive (a really bad Denny's) about 2 hours into the trip - cup of Joe's anyone?

She then took a nap for the remaining 3 hours of the drive!! We first went to my dad's house - and tried to get her to stretch her legs and get some fresh air outside after having been cooped up for so long - she's not so fond of the grass!

We then all headed over to Lois' house for the afternoon & to spend the night. When we got there, the neighbors were outside, and Becky made the rounds of the neighborhood with Pop-pop. Lois served a snack - Becky didn't try any herself, but had much fun feeding daddy!

Then, one of the nicest things happened. Lois' next door neighbor, Dorothy, came to the door, Lois let her in, she handed her a package & ran out again! The package was addressed to Becky, and inside was a beautiful hand knitted white long sleeve dress! It was a totally unexpected surprise!

Dorothy also knitted the afghan on the back of the love seat

Sunday night was the Chinese Moon Festival -but we celebrated (if you can call it that) on Saturday night. I had bought a box of assorted moon cake at an Asian baker this past week (my friend Lisa told me it was a Korean bakery - but the cakes are the same). Becky examined them all - the grownups tasted them all. Becky got the better part of the deal.....

I have proof that we marry our fathers......lucky for me & Becky! Sunday, we hung around Lois', ate and were generally lazy until we had to leave to drive to San Francisco. (She again slept the whole ride - about 1 1/2 hours)

Our hotel is right across from Hyde Pier where the maritime ships are - it was blustery Sunday afternoon - but nice for her first visit.

General Cuteness

There is nothing really to tell about any of these pictures except that they reflect the general cuteness of Becky!

Legacy of an Adopted Child

Once there were two women
Who never knew each other.
One you do not remember,
The other you call mother.

One gave you a nationality,
The other gave you a name.
One gave you the seed of talent,
The other gave you an aim.

Two different lives shaped
to make your one;
One became your guiding star,
The other became your sun.

One gave you emotions,
The other calmed your fears.
One saw your first sweet smile,
The other dried your tears.

The first gave you life,
The second taught you to live it.
The first gave you a need for love,
And the second was there to give it.

One gave you up,
It was all she could do.
The other prayed for a child,
And God led her straight to you.

And now you ask me through your tears,
The age old question through the years;
Heredity or Environment, which are you a product of?
Neither my darling, neither;
Just two different kinds of love
.

Catching Up

With my updates and with friends! (I've had a terrible time with Internet Explorer & Blogger...seriously considering buying a Mac right now!!) We've had several different visitors the past week - friends I've know forever and friends that are newer in our lives!

My friend Susan from San Diego paid us a surprise visit on Thursday! She was one of my very first mentors in my walk with the Lord - and she & her husband Dave are very special to Doug & I. I think she's teaching Becky how to read here.....

After Susan left, my very dear friend Judith arrived from Boston. Jude & I have know each other for like what seems forever - but at least since I lived in Boston in the late 80's (ouch - please don't do the math on that!!) She is so special to me - it was awesome having her here!!

We also had brother Matt here for the weekend - Becky just loves her big brother...

and he just loves her too!

Becky also resumed her swimming lessons - they are weekly now on Saturdays so that Daddy can go with her - I'm not sure who is having more fun here - Becky or Doug!

Share, Daddy

Becky is making great strides with her development; although she absolutely refuses to drink her juice from the sippy cup (good thing they are plastic - they survive getting hurled down to the tile floor!), yesterday she showed a definite interest in what Daddy was drinking - she really wanted him to share his "daddy juice" (thanks to Robin Miller for the nickname!)

problem was - I think she liked it......guess CCAA really did match us with the right kid!
