Since we are now day 1 into our next vacation - I thought I needed to finish up form the last one! (This is delayed because besides dropping my phone in to the toilet on Saturday, I also left my camera in NJ and just got it back!)
The odyssey continued from Ohio through Pennsylvania and into New York, right in to the amrs of the Sanchez family! We were so amazingly happy to see them - even without the ice cream!!
On Friday morning, we headed out to a local farm for some fresh pickin's -
We started in the strawberry fields - one in the box, one to eat seemed to be the theme here for certain girls!
The true treasure was in the trees though - thousands of rope, ready to eat cherries!
They went a little crazy...in about 20 minutes the kids picked 5 pounds of cherries!
But they had fun so it was worth every penny of the $6.99 a pound!
Auntie D and her girls!
Like all parts of the trip, that visit was far too short, and made shorter by a change in plans. On to the next; however!
Saturday was one of the anchor reasons for the trip - a reunion of girls adopted from Cami's orphanage. Most (ok - all but 2) of the girls were adopted as babies and are now anywhere from 8-18 years old. Originally, a former director intended on attending, but illness cancelled her trip. We would have cancelled as well, but one of Cami's friends who was adopted a few months after her was going to come if we attended.
I am so glad we did; it was so neat to see these girls together - having fun doing things together that they never would have been able to do in Maoming.
Kayla and Cami in Maoming together when Cami & I went back to the orphanage to visit....
After that event (which is where the phone took a swim in the toilet - fortunately before Katie peed in it!) and I left my camera, we headed to northern New Jersey to meet up with the family that we traveled with on Cami's adoption trip.
It was once again amazing to see the transforming power of adoption in these girls lives. It was so affirming to talk to the mom's who have been walking what we have been walking - watching their girls grow and heal.
A great trip - but all were tired and ready to go home!
SInce this girls very first flight at age 14 months and in the dozen that have followed - she has developed an uncanny knack of falling asleep as we begin our initial descent!
