A Day in DC

DC is a very kid friendly town - except for the restaurant in our hotel & the museums (not good with toddler as my darling husband discovered this afternoon!). So - Becky & I headed for a place that is seriously kid friendly - the National Zoo!

Our first stop - and the place we spent the most time - was the giant panda exhibit. The weather was cool, so it meant that the animals were out & active. We also got there about lunch time for the pandas - so we got to see all three of them (in separate areas) eating their lunch. Becky loved them!

After the pandas, we went to the elephants and the hippos. We were very close to this one - and Becky loved it...until he roared about a ten seconds after this picture was taken! That was the end of the elephant & hippo house for us. If you've never heard a hippo roar - it's loud, the teeth are really ugly and Becky could fit twice over in the mouth!
It was a nice day, and she burned a lot of energy - I love this picture of her (she is just learning to "ham it up" for the camera)

After the zoo, Becky & I headed out to Chesapeake Beach to meet one of the other travel moms from our travel group to China last year. Christy adopted her son Gui Gui at the same time we did. She lives in Charlotte, but is traveling this week so we won't get to see her there..but turns out she was traveling near us. So - we met for dinner. It was great to be with someone who shared that unique China experience with me. She didn't have her son with her...but we are getting to see him tomorrow in Virginia where he is staying with her mom - how cool is that!
