One of the things I like most about being a mom is watching my kids' friends grow up! I see my children every single day, so I often miss some of the changes they go through because we are going through them together.
One of our favorite people to see grow up is Ryan. He and Becky have been friends for over three years - and MY GOODNESS how he is growing up! We got to celebrate his 6th birthday with him last Sunday. It was, buy far, one of the best birthday parties we have been to in a long time. The kids swam and ate cake - and had a blast!
Even Doug got into the swim of things!
It is the simple pleasures in life - cake and swimming - that can often get overlooked in the busy-ness and activity packed lives we lead.
Because of where our kids are right now, we have been making our world smaller and smaller, eliminating things that can over stimulate and overwhelm them. I have been struggling with this - feeling a bit sorry for myself as friends head to Disneyland and the water park and exotic (or any!) vacation spots! In looking over our pictures from the past two weekends, I am beginning to get a glimpse of what God is trying to show me through this season.
I am grateful that God's plan is better than mine - that His ways are not my ways. I am seeing His joy and pleasures better than I was before. I still might moan a bit, but it's getting better!
