City Slickers

We weren't but about 20 minutes over the New Mexico-Texas border when from the back seat rang out the words

"mom - there is so much space here"!

And that defines my girls experience in Texas!

We stopped at a small town south of  Amarillo to visit Palo Duro Canyon - the second largest canyon in the United States. It is a different "kind" of canyon than the Grand Canyon - but still breathtakingly beautiful.

Part of the attraction of this canyon is the amphitheater built at the bottom and the stage show production of "Texas" - an historical fiction play chronicling the settling of the Texas panhandle.
 And the chuck wagon dinner!
And the cowboys that teach us how to lasso

We met the Comanche from the show

It was a spectacular setting for a show. There was no photography allowed during the show, but it got better than this view!

The show was spectacular - horses, fire, singing, dancing and a tribute to the United States with a wonderful fireworks show at the end. The girls stayed up way past their bedtime - but actually all sat through it and enjoyed it!

Some of their observations about Texas-

"There are SO many bugs" - throughout the show - which was at night - you could see the millions of bugs flying around the light (and bats - but I didn't tell them that's what they were"

"Mom - look at the size of THAT bug"  - heard about every five minutes

"They have so many more stars here than we have at home"

yes girls, we're not in LA anymore!
