A lot of people have raised many of the same questions about our upcoming adoption - and I love to talk about it - but to answer everyone's question every time is a bit over whelming, so I am going to tackle the most common ones here:
1) How did Cami receive her burns?
We do not know, but she was found when they were very fresh and from the scar pattern, it appears that she pulled a hot pot of liquid onto herself
2) What is the plan for her surgery?
Cami will be evaluated the week after we get home with her, with her first surgery probably scheduled for sometime shortly thereafter. It will be her most intensive surgery and she will probably be hospitalized for 4-6 days. After that, most of her surgery will be day surgery or one night stay surgery.
3) Isn't that really soon after she comes home for surgery?
It is, but she has some tearing under her eye that can present complications later and she needs to have the skin under her jaw released.
4) Given all of Katie's needs, are you sure you should be adopting again - especially a child with so many medical needs? (yes - we have been asked this by those who know us well and those who don't - in a variety of "sensitive ways" - but this is the general question)
Yes - we are sure. The Lord has made is abundantly clear that this is our path and Cami belongs in our family. We understand all the challenges and are well aware of the difficult journey we are embarking on. We are confident that the Lord will provide us with the physical and emotions strength we need to meet the needs of ALL five of our children. We are blessed to have some amazing family and friends who have stepped in to be extra hands and help - and we consider them a direct providence of God.
5) How is the fund raising going?
Better than we ever could have imagined! We are only about $1500 short of our goal and are confident that the Lord will provide that as we need it.
We love hearing the questions people have about our adoption. It gives us the opportunity to witness about the power of the Lord in action.
It is hard when people judge and criticize our decision regarding this adoption - some do it out of a genuine concern for our family, some do it for other reasons less noble. But I am learning how to handle these comments and criticisms with grace and not to take them personally.
Just another part of the growing & learning....
Love you friend. God never said that following Him would be easy. He said the opposite! He is covering you in the days to come - and friends and family around the world are interceding with prayer, protecting you from Satan's interference!
ReplyDeleteWe are so prod of your family Karen. You are living God's word. I talk about y'all to the kids all the time. They ALL know Cami's story and about your faithfulness. Harry and Kate immediately volunteered funds from their piggy banks. Will, well he does not have any $ and he is a teenager! But he has compassion.
ReplyDeletePraying for you and I KNOW y'all can do this:)
Love,
Kim
I love the answers you have given to these questions… I get the same types of questions and if I ever complain about being too tired or stressed, I get the harsh comments "maybe you have too many children!". Your answers are clear and solid and powerful.
